Our story...
Quinta das Murgas, located in Bucelas, near Lisbon, is a family farm that has been reborn in the hands of João França, inspired by the legacy of his grandfather, Sérgio Geraldes Barba. This place is not just a wine estate; as you cross its gates, you come across a rich and surprising biodiversity: from stables and a riding arena, to a lake inhabited by ducks and swans, not forgetting the goats and sheep that ensure the cleanliness of the forested area. The vineyard, inherited and rejuvenated, coexists with a landscape where animal life is a constant and valued presence, reflecting João's passion for animals, a value inherited from his grandfather.
The history of Quinta das Murgas is also the story of a life project. Beginning with the poultry farms in Freixial, the property has expanded over the years. Today, under João's management, the estate produces niche wines that are highly appreciated on both the national and international markets, thanks to the highly calcareous "terroir" that gives Bucelas wines their unique personality. With grape varieties such as Arinto, Esgana-Cão and Touriga Franca, the quinta celebrates viticulture with respect for tradition and innovation.
Quinta das Murgas is therefore more than just a place: it is a story of love, passion, dedication and respect for the land and the life that lives on it, told by the generations of João França's family and shared with all those who visit it.

We bring to the farm what are family passions and traditions, being more than a hobby, embracing them with seriousness and dedication and reflecting our love of work and the land. The farm, with its many animals and projects in development, is a living testament to the family legacy that we strive to honor and expand, promising a future where tradition and innovation go hand in hand.
As well as winemaking, at Quinta das Murgas you can enjoy horse riding experiences, linking the love of horses with the pleasure of wine. This project reflects the multifaceted spirit of the estate, which is also a place of welcome and learning for the younger generation, offering them the chance to experience rural life and the freedom to explore nature.
